Welcome!
Hello! I’m Andrew Pacifico, born and raised in Manaus, Amazonas (in the heart of Brazil’s rainforest). My first brush with the piano came through a tiny toy keyboard when I was a kid—I could pick out cartoon tunes with my right hand only, but I never dived deeper or learned to read music.
During my teenage years the guitar took over, and the keyboard gathered dust. Years passed with barely a note until my early twenties, when YouTube videos of epic film scores reignited the dream. I bought a Casio CDP‑120 digital piano, practised for a few days… then life happened and the routine fizzled out once more.
In 2024, at 33 years old, I drew a line in the sand: at least 30 minutes of focused practice every single day. I also resurrected the guitar for fun. To keep myself accountable I launched a YouTube channel where every upload shows exactly how many hours I’ve logged so far.
Piano Progress is the written companion to that channel—a candid journal of false starts, breakthroughs, and practical resources for any adult wondering if it’s “too late” to learn.
Why this site exists
Learning an instrument as an adult is different. We juggle jobs, families, and a thousand daily distractions, yet the urge to make music remains powerful. I built Piano Progress to:
- Show what real‑world practice looks like—no overnight miracles, just consistent work.
- Curate practical advice: books, courses, apps, and techniques that actually help adult beginners.
- Create community: a place where fellow learners can swap stories, tips, and encouragement.
What you’ll find here
- Practice Logs & Milestones – honest reports of my sessions, mistakes included.
- Tutorials & Theory Bites – distilled lessons that clicked for me, explained in plain English.
- Gear & Software Reviews – candid takes on pianos, VSTs, and learning tools I’ve tried.
- Monthly Challenges – pieces I’m working on and play‑along goals you can join.
My current setup
- Instrument: Casio Celviano AP‑270 (Generally recording as MIDI to Pianoteq)
- DAW: Ableton Live 11
- Practice Tracker: Omni Timer + Google Sheets
Expect these details to evolve as my playing—and curiosity—grow.
